So I own the S5iix and just purchased the GH7. I would personally say. As a shooter of both that my full frame only wins in low light and dynamic range by a little bit. My MFT wins everywhere else. Replacing my previous GH6 with my new A Cam aka the GH7! 🙌🏽 this whole “because it’s MFT” gets cringy. I would personally say it’s a meaningless statement.

M43 is great for video not for photos, i wish they used a 12mp sensor with dual native isos, could have been a beast

Very unserious review. “Full frame” is such a gimmick when it comes to filmmaking, especially when it’s often paramount that more than the eyelashes are in focus. The narrow depth of field look is cheap and overdone and belongs to UA-camrs in their gear caves. With that said, of course the GH7 is recommended, especially if you already own a lot of mft glass, if you aren’t a fan of gross amounts of rolling shutter and love an incredible ibis for documentary work. Oh and a dual gain output sensor, rivaling full frame cameras with regards to dynamic range, it’s even better than the r5, the R5C and the r6(II) 😂

So, with the dual native iso of the GH5S (released 6 years ago), you can work clean up to 3200-5000 iso and acceptable up to 10000iso, whereas here the limit is 1600iso. Not great. Dual native iso should have been the basis of the flagships AFTER the GH5S. I would never "upgrade" to full frame, due to size, weight and lens costs. Besides, the m43 depth of field is more like the cinematic super35 than the full frame (much more suitable for photography, in my opinion), especially with the lens reduction adapter.

Why didn’t you just put out a 30 second review stating we shouldn’t buy this and we should only buy a full frame camera? And it would have saved me over 7 mins that I can’t get back now.

I recorded my degree thesis on a Sony A65 and as a person who has experienced the evolution of cameras and has full frame, I can say that the GH7 is perfect for what I do. If you are a documentary filmmaker and don't want to carry around the huge S series lenses, a GH is what you need. Just yesterday I used the gh4, gh5 and s5 combined in a recording. When you work with a GH little by little you realize that (even ergonomics) works in your favor. These new models are expensive, but perhaps over time they will reach a good price. I'm also hoping for an equivalent to the g85 (low budget) with the new autofocus. That would be a bomb.

Servus Paule, Great video and analysis like always… Yeah unfortunately MFT Golden Time for MFT was GH4,GH5 so 10 years ago. For sure a great camera, but even for myself in my mixed MFT S line body’s it is hard to justify to buy it…doing multicam event concerts where the more the merrier 😂😂😂 On one side 3 S5 org,S5iiX L Mount lens,one P6K org some E mount FF L lenses, On the other 2 GH5,GH5s, 2 P4K and a dozen MFT lenses… I preordered on sale 2 month ago BMCC 6K FF because my P6K mainboard is probably breaking down USB malfunction Cfast dropping frames btw still waiting since end May for my P6K FF. So it was before GH7 release…don‘t know if a second S5iiX would have better or GH7, or wait for new lumix flagship…but Panasonic is in trouble financially so no idea if it is future proof… Anyway for me best MFT ever is still the P4K… And you R5ii? C400 instead of your Kommodo? Last question P6K FF, GH7,S5iiX or wait for new S1Hii? Or go crazy with Nikon Z6,Z8 migrate to Sony😂 What would you choose ? LG Fil

Dont get me wrong it is a good camera with a nice body design...but very very expensive there are much better cheaper options.I wish we could have the new sensor to a new gx9 type model that would be interesting.

If you shoot RAW on this or the R5C, you dont have any lens corrections available right? Asking because that new rf 35 1.4 vcm is terrible without corrections.

I currently use the R5C for commercials and corporate videos, it is a beast of a camera but I would like to have a second body for the improved version 2 CLOG2 Full HDMI and so on. Canon should not miss this opportunity and launch it very soon, hopefully in less than 90 days.

Dji new auto focus is INSANE

I already own the R5 and for me this camera was a disappointment. I would be in at $3999 but not $4300. Yeas it only $300 but it’s more than that.

Hi, Z8 is currently around 3300 CHF in Switzerland…R5ii would be 4500 CHF feels 1k too much and RF mount is still not open in FF to sigma,tamron lens and kind of expensive… N raw is better to edit vs canon raw in resolve… For me Nikon is cheaper and with more and less same features and with faster readout and over sampled 4k 60…plus ProRes raw internal,n raw and plenty of codecs… But to go back to canon is not enough today I would buy rather a Nikon Z8 now,probably soon with next Sony FF, Panasonic S2H could be a good option as well and more lens choices…and Red Nikon could as well surprise us in 2025…

10BIT in non log format is huge! Also Clog2 and Bt709 from their cinema line. This camera is for sure a huge upgrade when your a video first hybrid shooter!

Is 5200€, better not heat for that price.

Can you tell me if you can do 4K quality while using the cropped mode, or does it change to HD only.

If you have to choose either R5c or R5ii which would you go with? Any thoughts on some R5ii features (like clog2) coming to the R5c with firmware updates? Do you think there's an R5cii on the horizon?

So the R6 MII can do 4k 60fps downsampled, but not this camera?? Seems like something they need to update in the future

I see the arguments that on paper FX6 is better but it is more complicated than that. Yes it has better low light, lower price, more compact body, better frame rates and if any of this matter to you yea... go with FX6. But FX9 is still a superior camera... it was made by the Alta division meaning it has the Venice color science, true 4k color resolution (due to 6K oversampling), professional shoulder operation, broadcast IO, 1st party extension unit for V-mount batteries, wireless systems etc, support for B4 lenses in Super16 mode. There is a LOT that this camera offers that FX6 will just never do. Not to mention it looks more professional. The only thing I really miss on it is Cache Recording in S&Q mode, which FX6 can do. I hope they add this one day in a Firmware update.

Hi Paule, many thanks for your very helpful video. I’m only just starting to use DVR and use it in conjunction with Log images from my iPhone Pro 15 max. Your video is the only one I’ve seen on UA-cam which has explained clearly why the CST node is placed at the end and the grading nodes are placed before it. This has always been a a big puzzle to me and I’m sure other ‘UA-camrs’ who post instruction videos don’t understand why. Also you very clearly explained the other methods of converting which have also been unclear. So VERY WELL DONE!!!!! Keep up the excellent teaching videos. Kevin (North Wales, UK)

This video has too much unpleasant high frequencies. Perhaps the audio should not be processed so much. The information is interesting, but the sound of the voice is not very good.
